A Fontana man was arraigned Wednesday morning on charges filed in connection with the deadly shooting of his friend during an argument over who would sit in the front passenger seat of a vehicle last weekend.

Sergio Orozco, 19, of Fontana, pleaded not guilty to one count of murder and three allegations that he used a firearm during an arraignment hearing held before Judge Dan Detienne in Rancho Cucamonga Superior Court, according to online court records. Orozco is scheduled to return to court June 20.

Fontana police arrested Orozco on Monday in San Clemente on suspicion of murder in the death of Jalen Wilson, 19, of Fontana.

Police say Orozco, Wilson and another person were leaving a party Sunday night in the 15100 block of Coleen Street when the two friends began to fight over the front passenger seat, also known as the “shotgun” seat. Orozco pulled out a gun and shot Wilson in the chest, according to police.

Police and paramedics found Wilson lying in the street. Emergency personnel took him to a hospital where he later died.
