The Inland Empire Unions United coalition will team with local union employers Friday, Oct. 5 to host a job fair aimed at giving temporary workers the opportunity to secure full-time, stable employment with fair wages and decent benefits.

The hiring event, dubbed “A Day Without a Temp,” will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the National Orange Show Events Center, 689 South E. St., San Bernardino. It’s the latest initiative of Inland Empire unions to help working people who are struggling in an economy that increasingly prioritizes insecure temporary employment over permanent jobs.

“When the only job workers can find is a temp job with no benefits or security, it not only harms individual workers but is a drag on our entire economy in the Inland Empire,” Teamsters Local 1932 Secretary-Treasurer Randy Korgan said in a statement. “This job fair is about providing opportunity for working people to gain a foothold in the middle class. We’re proud to partner with other unions and employers in the region to give qualified workers the chance to find meaningful, stable employment that improves their lives.”

Between 2009 and 2014, the number of temporary workers grew by 39 percent nationwide creating a challenge for Americans looking to work full-time.
