A person walking on the railroad tracks died Friday, Oct. 6, when he was struck by a freight train in Riverside, Riverside police and railroad officials said.
The incident happened about 12:20 p.m. in the area of Madison Street.
BNSF spokeswoman Lena Kent said the train was traveling eastbound from Los Angeles.
Riverside police Officer Ryan Railsback said it was not yet clear why the person was on the tracks.
Madison and Jefferson Avenue were closed for the investigation.
