The Sound FM 100.3 will go away soon, so it seems the station is determined to have a blast on the way out. Why else would the morning crew have switched to an all-Christmas playlist on Monday morning to the shock and awe of its listeners?

Morning show hosts Andy Chanley and Gina Grad flipped the switch about 7 a.m. Monday, playing it straight — including a new holiday-themed profile photo on the station’s Facebook page — even as the songs got increasingly ridiculous.

Yes, Bruce Springsteen’s “Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town” is a holiday classic, and comedian Adam Sandler’s “The Chanukah Song” — your only chance each year to rhyme “gin and tonicah” with marijuanikah” — but when you get down to playing songs by both the Jingle Cats and Jingle Dogs back-to-back, well, you’ve gone a bit far round the bend, haven’t you?

Listeners were alternately amused and confused.

“I can tell Andy Chanley is behind this,” wrote Peter Dills on the station’s Facebook page.

“Ugh! Very unhappy about Christmas music being played till you go off the air,” wrote Stacy Diehl.

“Brilliant! Gonna miss you guys,” wrote Susie Friedenberg. “At least we got to spend Christmas together.”

Chanley bragged between songs that The Sound was the first FM station in the country to go all-Christmas, and were beating KOST-FM/103.5, which plays all-holiday music starting sometime in November, at its own game. A few minutes before 8 a.m. they were interrupted by Uncle Joe Benson, who was about to start his shift, who went all Scrooge on the pair in a humorous bit, and as fast as you can hit play Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” the classic rock station was back to its usual self.

Who knows what mischief they’ve got in store for the rest of the time they’ll be on the air?
