Ten people were shot and wounded, with three were in extremely critical condition after an exchange of gunfire in northeast San Bernardino on Sunday night, police said.
The investigation was in its early stages, leaving many questions unanswered, San Bernardino police Capt. Rich Lawhead said early Monday at the scene on East Lynwood Drive, north of the 210 Freeway and east of Waterman Avenue.

The shooting was reported about 10:45 p.m. Sunday. Officers arrived to find an unruly crowd and the wounded in a common area of an apartment complex at 1277 E. Lynwood Drive. There, people had gathered to play a game, possibly dice, Lawhead said.
“It was a chaotic scene,” Lawhead said.
The shooting started when someone showed up to the gathering, Lawhead said.
No one had been arrested early Monday and descriptions of suspects were limited. There was no vehicle description, and no firearms had been recovered.
Handguns and rifles were used, Lawhead said.
It was unclear if all the wounded were present before the shooting started, Lawhead said. All the victims were adults, he said.
Lawhead said there is gang activity in the area, but that this early in the investigation he could not yet attribute the shooting to a gang rivalry.
There are homes within the crime scene. Nearby at the intersection with North Golden Avenue there are two auto-repair shops, a market and a liquor store.
Patrons at one of the two nearby bars said they didn’t hear any gunshots because of the loud music playing.
The wounded were taken to three hospitals: Loma Linda University Medical Center, St. Bernadine Medical Center in San Bernardino and Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton.
The incident comes as community leaders have already expressed concern about violence in the city this summer.
