Obviously, in order to sell a home it has to be shown to prospective buyers. And for FSBOs who may not have the time or flexibility to take weekday appointments and host private tours, the open house may be the best way to get potential buyers through the door.

That said, you also don’t want to sit around on a Sunday afternoon waiting for people to come by. Unfortunately, most owners (and even most real estate agents) don’t put in the extra effort necessary to host a successful open house. But with proper preparation, you can show your home to 15-30 families who are looking for a house in your neighborhood … and all in a single afternoon!
