A 13-year-old boy was taken into custody Wednesday after being accused of bringing a gun to a Rancho Cucamonga middle school, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said.

The boy, whose name was not released, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a handgun on a school campus, a sheriff’s news release said. He was booked into juvenile hall.

A school administrator was notified that a student brought a gun to Rancho Cucamonga Middle School, the release said. The school official alerted the Sheriff’s Department and a sheriff’s school resource officer investigated the incident.

The gun was located and the officer took possession of it, the release said. The boy was interviewed and then arrested.
